The US Open is one of the oldest Grand Slam tennis events, starting in 1881 as a men’s singles and doubles tournament. Since then, the US Open has grown into a two-week tennis extravaganza held in Flushing Meadows, New York City. This event is the culmination of the US hard-court swing and features the best players from both the ATP and WTA tours. Players like Chris Evert, Serena Williams, and Martina Navratilova have left their mark on the history of this tournament, which is played on outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens.
The 2025 US Open begins with a free qualifying tournament August 18-21, then the main draw starts on Tuesday August 23. During this first week expect marquee matchups on Arthur Ashe and exciting prospects on the outer courts. The tournament heats up heading into Labor Day weekend. This year will see the introduction of a new format for mixed doubles, played during Fan Week (Aug 19-20) with a $1 million prize pot.
During the US Open you can purchase tickets for day and night sessions in either the main stadiums (Arthur Ashe or Louis Armstrong), or at the other courts on the grounds. The ticket will be scanned upon entry to the US Open grounds. To enter the grounds you must pass through security at either the East Gate or South Gate entrance. There is storage outside both gates (small lockers: $10, large suitcases: $20). Bag check is discounted for American Express cardholders.
