The 20th edition of the Asian Games will be held in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya from September 19 to October 4. It will be the third time Japan hosts the multi-sport event, having previously done so in 1958 and 1994. The theme for the Games is ‘Imagine One Asia’. The mascot is Honohon, a mythical fish with a tiger’s head based on the Shachihoko, a symbol of Nagoya Castle.
The organisers of Asian Games 2026 have drafted contingency plans to evacuate athletes in the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. This is due to the fact that the Games will be hosted in Japan, which is located in the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’ region and experiences high seismic activity. The organising committee has decided to use cruise ships as the Athletes’ Village rather than constructing apartments in order to cut down costs. The delegations of 45 nations have been informed about the plans.
TEKKEN will be one of seven esports titles offered at the Games, including PUBG and FIFA Online 4. India has a strong presence in both TEKKEN and PUBG and is expected to compete in all four esports events at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Besides, a 15-member Indian team will take part in the Arena of Valor Asian Games Version, DOTA 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2 and League of Legends. In addition, a separate eFootball and Pokemon UNITE competition will also feature at the Games.
